Explosion box (4 inch cube) - tutorial
#explosion box #tutorial
Hey everyone, so in the past I've been asked by quite a few people about how I make my explosion boxes, especially the dimensions I use. I usually make explosion boxed with 3 layers, so that is the one I will be showing you step by step how to make.
Hey everyone, so in the past I've been asked by quite a few people about how I make my explosion boxes, especially the dimensions I use. I usually make explosion boxed with 3 layers, so that is the one I will be showing you step by step how to make.
For the basic structure you will need:
12 x 12 inch cardstock (outer layer)
11 1/2 x 11 1/2 inch cardstock (middle layer)
11 x 11 inch cardstock (inner most layer)
7 1/16 x 7 1/16 inch cardstock (lid)
1) For each of the 'layers' you need to score at 4 inches from the edge of the cardstock.
2) Now you will need to cut off the four corner squares for each layer (note these cutouts should be 4 x 4 inches).
3) For the lid you will need to score at 1 1/2 inches from the edge of the cardstock, the four corners squares should be 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 inches (note the centre square is 4 1/16 x 4 1/16 inches, this extra 1/16 of an inch is to make sure that the lid slides on and off easily).
4) Now you will need to cut one edge of the corner squares. This creates the tabs needed to make the lid.
5) After adhering the layers together (by sticking the middle squares together) and sticking the tabs on the lid together you have the basic structure of the explosion box. Note, it is always easier to decorate the explosion before putting it together, so unleash your creativity and decorate!
After decorating, stick the layers and lid together, then all you have to do is put the lid on and it's finished! That's all there is to it! I know a video would have been better but I hope this tutorial helps you create your own explosion box!
Happy crafting!
